HOW OPTIMIST CLUBS AFFECT OUR COMMUNITIES
Optimist clubs run many youth oriented community service projects and Optimist International Youth Programs. Many of those projects and programs focus on youth safety including internet safety, sports and fitness, fighting childhood cancer, and helping those youth and families who are in need.
Optimist Clubs are autonomous, self-governed, community-based service organizations that raise their own funds and decide how to spend that money to support the youth in their own community. Clubs can design their own projects, sponsor other youth oriented organizations or programs, or run any of the Optimist International sanctioned youth programs.

Optimist clubs are famous across North America for hosting education scholarship competitions. There are annual essay writing contests for high school students, public speaking (oratorical) contests for junior high school students and sign language based (communication contest for the deaf and hard of hearing) oratorical contest for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. AMS&NW District awards $2,500 scholarships to the winners of the annual District contests.
If you would like to become an Optimist, I encourage you to contact the Club President of the Optimist Club nearest to you. If you would like to build an Optimist Club in your Community, please complete the "Contact Me" form below. We even have Optimist Clubs 4 Kids where the youth organize and run their own fund raising and community service projects.
