GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE – 2024- 2025

I am very honored and humbled to serve this wonderful district as your governor for the 2024-2025 optimist year. Being surrounded by a pool of talented, experienced and committed AMS&NW optimists will make my role as governor much easier, and thus I have every confidence that we will achieve great things together this year. We will be focusing on three (3) specific areas this year, to
align with Optimist International’s goals, namely
1. Membership Retention & Growth,
2. Marketing & Communications, and
3. Finances.

We have some formidable district goals, but if we work collaboratively in partnerships and teams, then "Together Each Achieves
More".

The meaning of life is to learn and grow and to change with time. We are therefore encouraged to learn by participating in the Personal Growth &  Involvement (PGI) program, the Professional Development Program (PDP), and also by completing courses on the Optimist Institute.

As we continue to learn, let’s be reminded that wisdom means nothing without action, so let us do the things that are required of us in our various roles. We will face challenges sometimes, but no matter how difficult the task is, never give up; pause, breath, but never quit, always keep going, as success is just around the corner.

As the Creed reminds us, “…Press on to the greater achievements of the future.” Always remember to celebrate the small wins. Don’t be selfish with the optimism that you are enjoying, share it, by inviting others to join the Wonderful Optimist Movement. Encourage everyone you meet with a smile or compliment. Make them feel better when they leave your presence,
and they will always be glad to see you coming. The only time we have is NOW, so make today count. Organize joint N.O.W. (New Optimists Welcome) meetings and invite friends, family, colleagues and community members.

Do whatever you can, whenever you can, wherever you are, with whatever you have, for as long as you can, to make a difference in the lives of others, especially our youth. Remember that little things can make a difference, a big difference to others. I challenge and encourage each member of the AMS&NW district (especially our leaders) to enroll just one, yes, just one new member for the 2024-2025 year.

In all you do as Optimists with a capital "O", always remember to have FUN, and enjoy the fellowship that the movement provides. Happiness cannot be found when you seek it for yourself, but when you give it to others, it will find its way back to you. So, talk Health and Happiness to everyone you meet, be enthusiastic about your friends’ successes, and make them feel
something worthy in themselves.

“The best leaders are servant leaders, - they serve those that they lead” – Tony Hsieh.

My fellow AMS&NW Optimists, you are Awesome. Some of you are not aware of just how Amazing you really are, the way you make people laugh, feel good about themselves, and how you lift up others or spread some extra love. May you be proud of the work that you do as Optimists, the wonderful persons that you are, and the difference that you make in the lives of others
that you touch, especially the children of our district.

I am extremely proud of all of you and thank you on behalf of the district and Optimist International for the Wonderful work that you do. Celebrate your successes, have confidence in yourselves, knowing that you are making a difference, and I, your Governor, have every confidence and faith in you.

Stay forever Blessed,
Governor Dwight Phillips
