Governor's April Message for AMS&NW
To: AMS&NW District:
STATUS: To the 2022-2023 Leadership Team, whether servings as a Lt. Governor, District Chair or Club President, dedicated Club Member, I'm sure you all realize that as of last Friday, March 31st, half our year is behind us. As for the District, we, I stress "WE" are currently recognized as #5 in the Nation on the Optimist International Scoreboard of the 176 current Optimist Clubs. As Governor, I'm very pleased and proud of where we currently in the ranking as well as being very proud of the accomplishments and activities of the AMS&NW District #13. As for the key areas regarding the scoreboard, two new Clubs have been built or sponsored. Two new JOI Clubs have been organized and chartered. The District is currently at a plus (+18) eighteen in Membership. We have 6 months remaining in our year, with a whole lot happening, but we've got to "close" the deal. The "deal" is delivering for the Youth, delivering for our Communities, and delivering not only for ourselves, but for others --- yes --- new members.
ACTIVITIES: Just yesterday I returned from a 4 day road trip. Attended the Wolf Point Optimist Club's meeting on Thursday night. Friday night, attended the Duval (SK) Optimist Club Community Bingo night with 112 in attendance from the surrounding area. They had to set up more table and chairs to accommodate everyone. What a nice problem to have!! What fun! Saturday, helped in the preparation and attended the Regina Sundowners Wild Game Dinner. Great food, great fellowship and a great time. Why do I mention this? I do know and hear what the Optimist presence has all around the District, but got to see first hand what the Optimist impact has, be it a small community or a large city provides for the youth and their respective communities. I had fun, but it was also heartwarming to see and be a part of. If you haven't been, please share on our this platform for other Clubs to see and maybe implement within their club as well.
MEETING: As a reminder, and I do hope many, many of you are planning on attending the upcoming Q-3 District Meeting in Medicine Hat on May 5th & 6th. There were 99 in attendance at the Q-2 meeting which was last February. Let's promote and plan on attending, and, encourage a fellow member who may have never attended a District meeting to attend as well, thereby, at the very minimum, have 100+ in attendance. The two Medicine Hat Clubs have a lot of great plans for the meeting as well as having the District Oratorical finals. Other than the Conventions held each year, the Q-3 Oratorical Meeting has always been my favorite, for that very reason - Oratorical. Friday night, the Q-3 Meeting committee has a great evening planned. Something very special and in fact quite different. Please, come see for yourself and your guest.
MEMBERSHIP: "Just Invite" is OI President Bob's mantra! I constantly witness and it is always spoken of, what being an Optimist Members means to each of us individually, whether it is doing something meaningful, or be it the close friendships we develop, be it within our Club, or be it within our AMS&NW District. On that note, consider this. Why would we not "invite" a family member, a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker or even someone we know in who we may not associate with personally, but know. Why would we not want to share and have others experience the friendships as well as the satisfaction of experiencing something meaningful for the youth and our community?
BETTER: My bottom line / message is this. No matter how much or how little. No matter how we may have fallen short of or given, we can "always", "always" be determined and strive to do just a little bit better. I'm asking everyone, to step up and give a little bit more to your Club. By doing a little bit more for your Club, you're doing a little bit more for the Youth and for your community. There may very well be no award or any recognition. But! BUT!! You'll know. And that's where it really counts. When and if you have to personally admit you didn't really give it your best - is NOT a good feeling inside. However!! When you do personally know, you gave it your best and got to see the results - that's when it FEELS GREAT, which is ironically, a product of doing BETTER!!
My thanks for "expecting only the Best - by giving your Best" for the remainder of the 2022-2023 year.
