2025-2026 DISTRICT SECRETARY / TREASURER
BOB MATTHEWSBob and De have been married for over 55 years and have three children, Carolynne, Roberta, and Robert, who are enjoying and working hard in their chosen careers. Bob also boasts of having nine grandchildren and at this point has eight great grandchildren who he enjoys spoiling.
Bob worked as a heavy-duty mechanic/service manager for over 50 years and retired in 2017, only to find another occupation to keep him busy… farming Before joining the Optimist Organization, Bob worked tirelessly with the Boy Scouts of Canada, serving as both a leader and an Assistant District Commissioner. He enjoyed watching the youth transition from Beavers right up to Venturers. Bob especially loved the times at camp and encouraged the youth to “climb mountains”. He showed the youth that there is nothing wrong with not making it to the top of the mountain as long as you give it your best. Many a young man had the opportunity to climb Table Mountain, camp, and go to world jamborees during the years Bob spent in Scouting. To this day, the youth still make a point to recognize Bob, even though it has been 25 plus years since they were in his pack/troop/company. Bob assisted the All-Nations Optimist Club on fundraisers and youth activities for several years, and finally joined the club in 2009, and has been active in all club activities. He has held the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the club from 2010 to 2016 and President from 2017 to the present. In his spare time, Bob enjoys camping, fishing, motorcycle riding, and most especially, spending time with his family and spoiling his great-grandchildren. |
