CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION
EDWARD HOEM
Ed is a Charter Member of the Heights Optimist Club of Billings, which chartered on February 10 , 1972. He served as Club President a couple times and served as Lt. Governor for Zone 4 in 1981-1982 and was awarded Distinguished LG.
In 1984 the Heights Optimist Club awarded Ed the status of being a “Life Member. In 2018-2019 Ed again served as Lt. Governor for Zone 4 and again achieved Distinguished LG status.. The following year he served as District Leadership Development Chair. Ed was born in Northeast South Dakota and moved to Montana when he was 5 years old. I graduated from High School in Baker Montana. Ed served in the US Army from 1966-1969, serving in South Korea and Germany. Shortly after his discharged, he married his high school sweetheart, and started college in the fall of 1969. Ed attended Morningside College for 1 year in Iowa, moved back to Montana and attended 2 years at Eastern Montana College. He dropped out of college with only his Senior year remaining as he had the incentive and opportunity to open his very own retail Meat Business in 1972. Ed had learned the trade while attending high school and college. During that time, they were very blessed with 3 Daughters. Devastatingly, my wife was diagnosed with advanced cancer and passed away in February 1982. His Optimist family to the rescue! Ed somehow had the great fortune of meeting his current wife, Susie, and they married in 1986. With that marriage included two children, together a total of 5. One boy and four girls!! As the years have passed, Ed and Susie now have 10 Grandchildren, now all young adults, and 1 Great Grand Child. Ed's parents were community minded, so when asked at a relatively young age if I’d join a youth organization, the Optimists, he said YES! Even though Ed was busy raising a family and running his own business he “made the time for Optimists" . Ed is retired now , and “he has the time” Ed is very much looking forward to serving as your Candidate Qualification for 2024-2025. |
